Dear Neighbor,
Just a note and a hello, especially to those of you who don’t already know us. My name is Gary Stewart, and I am your local chiropractor. I have lived in Riverdale since graduating from chiropractic college in 1983. After graduation I returned to North Jersey from Georgia to open my own practice. I grew up primarily in Ringwood and Totowa, each for about 10 years prior to heading off to Life Chiropractic College.
My wife, Donna, is from Hawthorne, and we have two healthy, great children who were both born right here in Riverdale.
My own experience with chiropractic began about 50 years ago when I was 14 years old. I had severe stomach problems, ulcers. After multiple medications and all kinds of changes in my diet failed to have any beneficial effect, the medical doctors basically threw their arms up in the air. They said that there was nothing more they could do. Their conclusion was that “I was just an uptight kid.” (I don’t think I was uptight.) They said that if I did not find a way to calm down that by the time I was 18 they would probably have to cut part of my stomach out because there would be a big hole through the side of it.
Fortunately for me, my family was guided to a good chiropractor. He taught us that healing does not come from pills or medication from the outside-in. He taught us that healing can only come from the inside-outward. He taught us how spinal subluxations, spinal bones out alignment, choke nerves and stop the flow of innate intelligence from your brain to your body. He showed us how subluxations cause sickness and disease.
Then and most importantly, he adjusted me and corrected my subluxations and maintained the correction so that my body could heal itself from the inside outward. My innate intelligence literally rebuilt my stomach with healthy cells from the inside outward. My stomach healed, it works fine, as does the rest of my body. I have maintained my spine and nerve system with regular chiropractic adjustments ever since. I do not have ulcers. As a matter of fact, I am quite healthy.
After receiving my license, I set up my practice in Bloomingdale. We were there for six years. The opportunity arose to relocate my office to Riverdale. Since we lived in Riverdale already, we wanted to practice in the town where we lived. We felt that that was important. So we moved our practice to the corner of Post Lane and Newark Pompton Turnpike in 1991 and have been there ever since.
I like living close to my office. This way I am never too far away to be available to serve my family of practice members. Also, my wife Donna is my office manager and since we are both in the office a lot, we are close to home and school so that we can easily spend time with our kids, Zachary and Shannon.
As the name of my office, Stewart Family Chiropractic, will tell you, we are a family practice. We are here to help entire families achieve and maintain good health. We believe that all health and healing comes from God; above-down and from inside-outward. And that the integrity of the spinal cord and nervous system is paramount in expressing health, healing, and wellness.
