Chiropractic? Dangerous?
How many times have I heard, “I’m afraid to get adjusted.” “Chiropractic scares me.” You should be much more afraid of NOT getting chiropractic care. If you become sick, here are some important statistics to be aware of. You need to be afraid of ever taking medication or, worse yet, landing in a hospital.
- 12,000 deaths/year from unnecessary surgery.
- 7,000 deaths/year from medication errors in hospitals.
- 20,000 deaths/year from other errors in hospitals.
- 80,000 deaths/year from nosocomial infections in hospitals.
- 106,000 deaths/year from nonerror, adverse effects of medications.
Can you imagine, 106,000 people die every year because they took a medication which the entire medical community agrees was correct and proper for their condition? And that’s only one of the causes. These statistics were taken from an article entitled “Is US Health Really the Best in the World?” which appeared in JAMA (Journal of the American Medical Association) on July 26, 2000 – Vol. 284, No. 4. If you add these numbers up, the total is 225,000. Over 200,000 people per year die unnecessarily. This is the third leading cause of death in the United States, after deaths from heart disease and cancer. To put that in perspective, the U.S. was involved in Vietnam for just about ten years. Over the course of those ten years, about 55,000 service people, mostly young men, gave their lives. That was, and still is, an atrocity. 55,000 young people’s lives cut short. But it occurred over a ten year period. That equates to 5,500 lives lost per year. How does that atrocity stack up to the Hospital/medication atrocity? Over 100,000 people die every year from properly prescribed medication. That’s almost twenty times the number of people who were killed in Vietnam every year.
Our nation became outraged with sending our loved ones to Vietnam to risk their lives. I ask you: where is the outrage over sending our loved ones into a hospital, only to lose their life?
The problem is not insurance. The problem is not doctors that don’t care (the largest percentage of them most certainly do care). The problem is the fact that we, as a nation, are insane. A definition of insanity is “doing the same thing and expecting different results.” We, as a nation, believe that by doing more of the same old thing we can accomplish different results. By throwing more money at the problem, the problem will get better. We already spend more per person on supposed health care than almost any other nation on earth. So why do we rank 12th of 13 nations in a study using 16 health indicators such as birth weight, infant mortality and life expectancy at various ages? Twelfth, that’s next to the bottom.
It’s not for a lack of money. It’s not a lack of doctors or hospitals, or the availability of medication. They are all available in great quantity. So why then is our health and our health rating so abysmal?
It’s because of how we look at things. We spend literally billions of dollars attacking disease. Yet we spend almost nothing promoting health. We pay a lot of lip service to health, but in reality, we do almost nothing to actually enhance the health potential of our own bodies.
If you want a different result, do something different. Stop living in fear of disease. Stop waiting for disease. Start promoting health. What are you doing to ensure that your health is maximized? What are you doing to allow your body to actually heal itself from within, the way it is supposed to. As opposed to waiting for disease, then combating the disease with dangerous medication and surgery. If you promote health by promoting normal, proper function, disease does not occur in the first place.
This is exactly what chiropractic has excelled at for the past 108 years. Not attacking disease, but promoting health. Not doing something from the outside in, by attempting to force the body to do or not to do something through the use of foreign substances, i.e. medication. But by releasing your innate power to heal, your body’s own power to stay healthy, chiropractic helps you to heal yourself. You see, health is already within you, healing is already within you. Unfortunately, your expression of that health is blocked; therefore, your health and healing ability are less than what they should be. That is why you are sick. That is why drugs don’t make you healthy; because they do not increase your healing, they only diminish your symptoms. Medication does not enhance function or cause healing or create health. Drugs can only subdue symptoms. Chiropractic, on the other hand, releases the innate or inborn potential and ability of your body to heal, no matter what disease you may have. It also maximizes that innate ability in healthy folks, so as to prevent disease from ever occurring.
The only thing chiropractic is dangerous to are the folks who want you to stay sick so that they can continue to sell you more and more medication.
